Our ever popular Beerfest is back again in November. Please do offer to help - Jane will be pleased to hear from anybody who can offer some time and assistance - or put your name on the Beerfest Volunteer Notice on the noticeboard in the Club Entrance. But you really must make sure you come along over the weekend. As usual there will be a stunning range of beers and ciders for you to sample. And don’t forget the raffles! No need for us to say any more: you know the form, you love the ales and cider, you enjoy the atmosphere…. And if you haven’t been coming then you simply must come along and see what you have been missing. Plus our charity benefits tremendously.
Beerfest 2025 was a tremendous success. Lots of happy drinkers, great atmosphere, and this year we aim to make it even
better! You must not miss it: Friday 13th to Sunday 15th November 2026, and it’s all for charity: this year that charity is
young lives vs cancer, an excellent cause so let’s raise loads of money for them!

Poppy Appeal volunteers urgently wanted
2026 RBL Poppy Appeal 22 October - 8 November.
Can you spare a few hours to help this very
worthy national Appeal?
We work closely with Bristol Airport to collect from both Departures and Arrivals through the 17 days of the Appeal. Working solo or in pairs, we work in four hour shifts manning an inside table with seating available - shifts of 04.00-10.00, 10.00-14.00, 14.00-18.00 and 18.00-22.00 hours.
With free car parking for volunteers, collecting can be great fun as we speak with and collect from people from all backgrounds, nearly all with a military or service contact within their family and friends. Full training given. All funds collected help support military and service veterans and personnel post-service. Last year we raised c.£31k towards a Somerset total of over £1 million and a national total approaching £54 million. Fantastic results but to continue this success we desperately need more volunteers.......
That's where you come in! There will be a meet and greet session at the Club between 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Friday 9th October where you can find out more details and offer your support to the Bristol Airport rota. There will be free tea and coffee and a raffle to raise Poppy Appeal funds, stronger drinks will also be available of course! Please bring your diary!

2027 Membership Fees
The Guest temporary membership charge is now £2 per person (with a maximum number of entries a year).
Student and over 65 £15
Standard Full £25
Over 80 £5 – donate more if you wish!
Life members – free, but please complete the form!!!
The club year starts from 1st January, so we will start collecting 2027 membership fees from 1st December 2026. The fees will remain the same as for 2026 save for the introduction of a £5 fee (minimum, donate more if you wish) for those who are 80 years of age and older. In part this is intended to ensure that all members complete the annual membership form which ensures that our records are up-to-date and accurate. As usual there will be a period of grace but as ever any member who has not renewed by 31st January 2027 will have
his / her membership cancelled and will have to apply again paying the appropriate application fee as well. Sorry, but no exceptions – the renewal date is actually 31st December!
Guest Fees & Prices
We have listened to comments received from members! It is some time since we changed the cost to guests / nonmembers who visit the club and it is some time since we looked at the differential between members prices and guest prices. So from 1st October the Guest temporary membership charge is now £2 per person (with a maximum number of entries a year). In addition, whilst we are not changing bar prices for members we have implemented a price increase for non-members.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TO ENABLE THE STAFF TO CHARGE YOU MEMBERS’ PRICES YOU MUST SHOW YOUR BVC MEMBERSHIP CARD, OR THE APPROPRIATE CLUB KEY APP, WHEN PLACING YOUR ORDER.
(We do not use this to gain information on any individual’s ordering nor do we have the ability to)
Use of your Membership card
Please, please do not allow a non-member to take your card to use when that non-member is buying drinks (unless you will be coming to the bar to pay for the order yourself). The prices are a reward for club membership, we cannot allocate members’ prices when a non-member is paying, so please save embarrassment for the non-members, our staff and maybe yourself when we say that we have to charge the higher guest prices.

Glynn Hale wins prized
snooker tournament!
Congratulations to Glynn who, this month, won the ‘Snookerloopian’s’ snooker tournament for our nominated club charity. He raised £80 for Young lives vs Cancer.

CAMRA SOUTH WEST REGIONAL CLUB OF THE YEAR 2026 PRESENTATION DAY SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST 16.00
Save the date (and time) and come along to celebrate with us and take part in the presentation. (We promise that Steve with not talk for too long)
What an achievement for our club, for Jane and her team but also for our members: the vibe that you help us create is vital in helping us achieve all of these successes.
Once again we are recognised for many things including the range and quality of our beer, the atmosphere and the environment. We would not have received this award without the commitment and contribution of all members of our staff team who, by the way they serve our members (and guests) and their friendly, efficient manner, create the welcome which has been recognised in this award. And, of course, our club is always well presented, clean and tidy: Louise, and other members of the team, make sure that the club is always shown off in the best way.
Without doubt the award would not have been received without the excellent cellar work from Mel (ably supported by his trainer David). We are congratulated on the standard of the beer which we serve - well their work helps make sure that it is served in perfect condition. And once again we are complemented on the excellence of the range, and choice, of real ales which we make available: thanks Jane, keep providing a great range to tempt us with!
And let us repeat, you our members help create the friendly, welcoming atmosphere: THANK YOU ALL MEMBERS!
WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO COME TO THE PRESENTATION WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST AT 4:00PM. A number of CAMRA members will be joining us at Backwell Village Club to enjoy our beers and our hospitality in a friendly, low-key manner - so not too much time spent on speeches and presentations – just beer, fun and celebration! the club to continue to function efficiently.
Backwell Village Club relies on the work and contributions from a small number of members who devote time, skills and abilities to help make the club a success. This supplements the sterling work of Jane and her team and allows us to be a cost effective, efficient, friendly social club and meeting place. BUT WE URGENTLY NEED MORE HELP. This can be as a Committee Member, a helper or a volunteer, and it does not have to be time-consuming. Tell us how you think you can help, how much (or little) time that you have available and we can work with you to integrate this into our plans.
